Ronny Chieng

comedian and actor. Chieng is currently a senior correspondent for The Daily
Show on Comedy Central and creator and star of the sitcom Ronny Chieng
International Student which began airing on ABC (Australia) as well as Comedy
Central Asia in 2017. Chieng was born in Johor Bahru, Malaysia, to a Malaysian
Chinese family. From 1989 to 1994, he was living in Manchester in New
Hampshire. Chieng appeared with Trevor Noah at a Melbourne comedy festival in
2013. Two years later Chieng was asked to audition for the role of
correspondent for The Daily Show, which Noah hosts. In July 2016 Chieng was
named one of 10 Comics to Check out by Variety In October, Chieng appeared on
The Daily Show to offer his opinion on a Jesse Watters Fox News segment deemed
by many as racist. Chieng offers a scathing critique of the segment on the
conservative network. Chieng also visited the city's Chinatown, where Watters
had mocked residents, and conducted more respectful interviews in Mandarin and
Cantonese. The viral video received coverage in Slate and the Washington Post.
In his youth, Chieng was an Singapore Sea Scout. Though he's lived in Australia
for more than 10 years, he still doesn't possess permanent residency or
citizenship in Australia. Chieng made an absurd joke about being an apologist
for cynophobia on the 2018 Daily Show. But Chieng later claimed that he is
"100 100% not afraid of dogs" in an interview.
